Blown Engine!!!!!!!!???????

Hi,

Im currently in search of a 95' eclipse GSX. Im really interested in cars, i guess you can say im obssessed too. Anyway, my father keep argueing with me. He keeps telling me all Im gonna do is ruin everything, blow my engine and thats it. He doesnt know anything about performance parts but know's alot about how cars work and how to fix them.

I'd like to know from a good/pro driver, how many races have you been in so far and havent blown your engine or how many races did it take for yours to blow (drag). I know the number will varry, im not phucking stupid, im just trying to get information to show my dad that 1 or 2 races wont have me sitting in front of burning engine.

(that's all i wanna hear. I don't wanna hear, "well, there is a lot of things that can make your engine get shot easily: over reving, to much boost, blah blah blah, im not stupid...)

I do as much as 300 passes a year on stock engines, running low 12s or better. I also drive every day 35k miles per year at ~400 whp. The drivetrain will suffer from repetitive stress, but the engine honestly could care less if its tuned well. I would recomend getting a good clutch and a 4 spider center diff from Speed Design before you break the stock diff. Make it an "upgrade" before it becomes a "repair."

I have 175000 on the car. One motor had 100k when I put it in,and I ran low 12s until it had 130k, and it was perfect when I swapped itout for a stage 2 SBR block. Friends are running 11s with upwards of 175k miles on the original stock blocks, etc.

Okay, well my father understands after giving him several examples of people that don't blow there motors, and why some do. Now he wants to know, what do you get out of this, racing. lol, i know these are stupid questions, lemme know.

Whats the stage 2 SBR block, why did you choose that. Also in your last post, what do you mean by tuning the engine well, are you using a EMS. I don't understand what tuning the engine means unless you use a EMS, lemme know...thanx.

The stage 2 block is just an upgrade over stock internals. In my case, the SBR (www.slowboyracing.com) stage 2 block has eagle rods, and ross pistons. It varies from vendor to vendor. I went with a built block because I plan to make up to 600 whp in the car eventually.

Tuning means that you are using some type of feedback device (datalogger), and something to tune your airfuel ratio (and perhaps timing). This can be an EMS, but very few DSMers go to standalones with the other options that are available. It could be as simple as an Apexi SAFC (250 bucks) to control fuel and a pocketlogger (www.pocketlogger.com) to datalog, so you know what changes to make. Some 90-94 guys swear by HKSs now discontinued VPC instead of, or inaddition to, the AFC. Also check out www.tmo.com. Most poeple with 95-99 cars prefer the DSmlink, at www.dsmlink.com, which combines everything you need into one package, but still isnt a standalone EMS. Poeple are running into the 7s with these simple options and stock computers.
