Pull Lumina radio

I'd like to replace my 1998 Lumina AM-FM radio with the OEM AM-FM / CD player. I plan to buy one used.

Two questions: 1) How do you pull the radio? and 2) Can I expect that it will be "pull the radio", "unplug it", "use the same plugs into the OEM CD player" and "finish the installation"? Any help would be great. I'm new to AF and to the 1998 Lumina I just bought.

Go to Wal- Mart and buy the special tool needed to release the locks behind the face of the radio. You must do this carefully especially if you are a big ham fisted person or you can run up big repair bill. Just read the directions twice and use the tools AFTER you read the directions.
My grand Daughter- age 15 changed out her OEM radio to a cheap Best Buy radio in minutes and it works great.
The tool is simple and the use of the 2 piece tool is simple. The tool is inexpensive.
The OEM plug can be connected to an aftermarket adapter that may come with your new radio- depending on how much you pay for it.
If the adapter is not available you must do some wire splicing to get the correct hookup. Wire splices are the way to go for neatness.

hey, i am planning on doing that exact same thing. I actually ordered already a factor delco am fm cd player to replace my am fm cassette. and as far as I know, all you will have to do is remove the dash. pull the old radio, unplug it, plug the new factory delco right in, and re assemble everything all back together. That simple. I had an aftermarked deck once, and I hated that piece of crap so bad. I will never put anything aftermarket into my car. It decreases the value. I dont really know how to remove the dash though, but i havnt really looke at it yet. Will do it when the time comes. btw, my lumina is a 2001
