Automatic headlights??
I recently purchased a 2001 BMW 740I and cannot figure out how the lights work. Having previously owned Lexus', their lights have an automatic feature - they turn on when it gets dark and shut off when it gets brighter or when the car is shut off. With the BMW, I have to manually turn the lights on and off. Even when the car is shut off (with the low beams on), the parking lights remain on. Hard to believe such an advanced car does not have a way to automatically turn the lights on and off, or at the very least auto shut off when the car is turned off.
Can anyone advise?? Thanks so much. It's a little thing but kind of frustrating... |

Re: Automatic headlights??
Welcome to the world of BMW where they kind of have lost touch with reality. I pisses me off that they don't have that option. Sorry, but you actually have to do it manually. I have a 2000.
So, which do you prefer your bimmer or the Lexus?

Re: Re: Automatic headlights??
I'm not sure just yet. It's pretty early in the marriage - and it goes without question that Bimmer makes a sexy car. It's like a pretty girl - I just hope the substance measures up to the looks. For all the bells and whistles it has (which I am still figuring out how to operate), it doesn't always make sense what the car can and can't do - like the lights. I called the service shop and they said there may be a short somewhere - as the lights should shut off when I turn the car off. But no automatic option - I guess that came later. Odd.....
