Ok weres the oil filter go on a 04 Cavalier

I've never felt so stupid. I've changed oil on everything from semis, to large ag equipment, to many different cars, but this one has me stumped. Were does the filter go on this car. I was trying to change the oil for my fiance on her car but can't seem to find it. The filter she brought me is an internal type of filter is it the right one to start with and if so were does it go. If its a spin on I can't seem to find it anywere I looked all over on top and underneath and can't seem to find it.

yes the 2k4 have an internal (filter only, non-canister) filter. Now if your looking on at the engine from the center of the car, look down to your right should be right next to the exhaust manifold, its a black plastic canister. the top of it shoiuld have what looks like a bolt mold. its about a 30/32mm socket size. screw that off, and the filter is inside of there. happy hunting, post back for any further questions.

Well i dont know if this helps but i just did an oil change on my 97 2.2L and i also couldnt find it. But i eventually found it hidden behind the engine on the back on the side of the block near the middle. If you get a light and look back there you may see it, mine was hard to change because the AC unit is in the way. Also if it is in the same spot when you take to oil plug out of the pan position the pan closer to the back of the engine and you will catch the oil from the filter.

Re: Ok weres the oil filter go on a 04 Cavalier

just so you know firecav97 its easier to reach down on the right side of the engine (left if looking on from the front) back near the firewall and down there is the easiet way to get off your filter, other then reaching through the right wheel suspension gap near the tie rods. but your car is different then his, 95-2003 has the same filter location on the 2200 sfi l4 engines, but the 2k4 has a brand new filter element only type of filter, not the canister type filters.

Ah ok i guess the newer engines are different . Ya i did use the left side of the engine to get at the oil filter its just that the AC unit is in the way so its tight. If i didnt have AC it wouldnt be so bad i guess.

my question would be why are you changing the oil on an 04 engine. God for bid something does go wrong with the engine in the distance future while it is still under war., being you changed the oil on the car yourself won't that void the war.?
