How bad is this for my car...?

Tonight I met up with my mom and sis for happy hour at this place a couple cities over from my house. At this place, they had complimentory valet parking, and they wouldn't allow me to self park, I try to avoid valet parking if at all possible, after hearing horror stories about valet mishaps, and especially aftet seeing the back of my old neighbor's Porsche after a valet attendant backed another car up OVER the back of it. So anyways, the guy opens my door, and I get out of my car (leaving it running) and they guy gets in, and just as I'm stepping onto the curb of the lot, I hear the horrid familiar screech/grind noise from the attendant trying to start my car while it's ALREADY running. I did this to my car once like a long time ago just after I had gotten it. When I heard the noise, I stopped dead in my tracks, and eyeballed the guy in my car with the meanest look I could until he was out of sight. I could see his "tail" go so far between his legs with his facial expression. It's one thing to do that, but in front of the owner? Does the moron NOT know what a tach is for, and notice my lights still on? Needless to say, when I left, I gave the guy my number for my keys, and demended that I move my car myself to leave as I didn't want then touching my car any further. They complied.

So how bad is that for my car, to engauge the starter with the car already running? And will doing that once harm anything?

Most noticebly your lights on? UMMmmmm, your car doesnt have to be running for your lights to be on. But he must have been new, any valet attendant knows to check the tach... and who actually SHUTS their car off at valet anyways? lol hes an EEEEEDIOT, you should have jumped into the car and beat him senceless !

No damage too serious. Honda knows this is gonna happen occasionally, and the flywheel can take a little abuse without any real damage.

I hate valets too. If they won't let me park it myself, I go somewhere else.

I make a point to let the vallet's see that I'm writing down my exact mileage on a sticky b4 I go in wherever. I like to do a walkaround of my car and note any scratches or dents already there, before I drop off the car.. and then most importantly when I pick it up.
I'm a dick, what can I say?

No your not,, I am. when I got my car after they gave me the keys for it, and pulled it from where it was parked at, I parked it right IN FRONT of their key locker where all the other valets were, got out, and did a complete walkover/circle around my car checking for dings, and stuff! haha!!! The looks on their faces.. Pricesless to say the least. And the valet that did that to my car, walked past me and said to me in his half broken english, "I'm sorry about that, I didn't know it was on" and I just blew him off by saying back to him "what an idiot, can't even tell when a car is running or not, it's not that complicated to do..." Treat a car like how you'de want your's treated, even if you have a beater, that's my philosophy. =\
