rear windshield bulged, crumpled & died

Hey, has anybody had the experience of a rear windshield bulging out and then shattering spontaneously - when the car is sitting unoccupied?? When this happened I was STANDING NEAR THE CAR AND NOTHING EVEN TOUCHED IT! It was, however, one of the first really cold days of the season, and this glass was a replacement job done in warmer weather.
I just don't know what to think! Could it be caused by a faulty installation (this WAS a replacement) or something like that? Comeon back ANYONE who has any kind of clue!! Thank you!
