eclipses old and new

Ok, I have a base 92 and its fun, and light, and slow. I was just wondering what happened to the eclipses? I have the girliest 1st gen made as far as i know, but it has disc brakes all the way around, and gearing to compensate for no power. The turbo DSMs are awesome machines, great performance, not too hard to see big hp #s, and fit in a very high category in my mind. But the newer models (2000+) seem to just be heavy and gay, correct me if im wrong, but i believe i have seen drum brakes on the back of the gs and even the gt eclipse. They are very heavy and not geared to deliver quite so much of that "fun" feeling. I drove a 2001 gs 5spd and i do believe that my mom's crystler town and country is faster and would out handle that thing. ANYWAY, i was just wondering what you guys thought about the 3rd gens.

Re: eclipses old and new

I test drove a 02 eclipse V6 when I was trying to decide on a 2g or 3g. I tried the 3g first, the interior was huge compared to the 1g I had at the time. I will say for a nice everyday 2 door car the V6 is smooth and the car feels solid. The V6 does not have nuts, which is my biggest complaint from Mitsu. It seems like if mitsu could develop some of the best 4 cylinder engines around it could at least have a 6 with some pep in it's step.
Overall the 1g and 2g are true sport compact cars who have had a loyal following. The 3g eclipse is a sell out car. It was an attempt to make more money by making the car appeal to everyone who was looking for a 2 door car. That includes first time car buyers and women (no offense) who usually don't appreciate a true performance car.
