I know if you purchase a S it will be very cheap by insurance considering im 17 but an Si is not only more expensive but insurance is also. So I was hoping I can purchase an S for cheap and later on upgrade the engine with Vtec or like the middle version because 103 HP is just sad. Is there any possible way to get 130HP+ on a 93 del Sol S with a limited budget and without engine swapping? Thanks alot for all the help,

Re: Is it possible to make an S an Si?
hmm... adding 30 hp to it.... at the wheels? Umm... Start with I/H/E... to get up to 130 you may have to start looking at some turbo options. But if my friend Tim can get 625 hp out of an engine that is 130 stock, getting 130 out of a 100 hp engine can be done. Might end up being cheaper to just swap, though.

With the correct parts from the VTEC model, you can swap the B16A into the S model without problems. If you want VTEC without swapping motors, you'll have to swap a SOHC VTEC head from an Si onto your SOHC non-VTEC motor. Of course, you'll need a few other things to get it to work but it can be done.

Re: Re: Is it possible to make an S an Si?
I dunno... I had an S model that gave my neighbor's son on his bike a SERIOUS run for his money...
.... I'm not joking. 5 speed S > 18 speed bike. I think it could probably beat a viper, too... if the viper was going in reverse down the track... and gave the sol a 6 second headstart. Be close. Yeah I would get an S model and swap in a VTEC... my "perfect" sol is a 1995 S model with a B16 in it... S model insurance, trunk popper, low fuel light, and b16 power! Yippee! |

the del sol s has 102 hp at the crank. si has 125 hp
you can make the car an si, yes. but your vin will always say del sol s. #1, engine.... d16 can be found (in my area anyways) for around 200-300. you will need a new ecu, and run 4 extra wires for the vtec selenoid. #2, brakes. you will need rear trailingarms with brake assembly. either from 92-95 civic w/ rear disk, 94+ integra or del sol si/vtec models. be sure to use the del sol si/vtec ebrake cable. you CAN use the integra ones but the are a little longer so you will have to deal with the slack a little. #3, to be picky, the tachometer. it jusdt redlines a little higher. voila you have a del sol si claiming to be an s. hum.... 250 for engine, 200 for rear brakes, tach who knows. spend maybe around 600 bucks for this" conversion" save a little more and do suspension. my 1/50th of a dollar |
