i have been having trouble with my 1993 3.1 cutlass sl overheating suddenly then for no reason cooling back down then overheating again...a mad mad cylce.
i have done many things to correct this without any results. was asked if i had bled my cooling system. could someone please explain how to bleed the cooling system on this vehicle. i have not done this yet and honestly am at my wits end, hopefully this will do the trick. thank-you for any help you can give me. Re: bleed cooling system
If it is like the 95 3.1 you more than likely you will have 2 air bleed valves, one on the thermostat housing and one on the thermostat bypass (i think). If I am not mistaken these need to be open while filling the system (close them if/when coolant start flowing out of the valve). You also want to make sure that these valves are fully closed once system is filled. Also, if you haven't already you might consider a new radiator cap.

Thank-you for your response. The radiator cap has been replaced (last week) so now I will do the bleed. Wish me luck
