Question 1994 LeSabre sounds like washing machine

Have a 1994 LeSabre limited with a little over 180,000 miles on it. Whenever the temperature controls are used for ac, heat, economy, defog, you name it - the care sounds like a washing machine with a really steady click to it. When the temp controls are off you don't hear a click, but you hear a loud flat grinding sound (not metal), just a growl. Have had some small problems with the ac in the last year - not cooling as well as it should, etc. What is wearing out now?

sounds like the air cnditioning compessor is at fault. while the concern is there open the hood and look at the ac compressor to see if the clutch is wobbling or noisy.you can also unplug it to see if the noise disappears.
