Gas Smell from Heater - 2001 Elantra
Hi Everyone-
Recently I have noticed a gas odor when I turn the heater on in my 2001 Elantra. I read about a possible recall involving the exhaust manifold, but I'm not sure that's what would be causing this. It seems if that were the case, I would always get the smell. Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know what might be causing this? Would this be covered under warranty? My Elantra has about 49,000 miles on it. Thanks, Mike Ryan |

It most likely is the exhaust manifold. You get the gas smell when you use the heat because the heat is taken directly from the heat the engine gives off. Since the exhaust manifold is located right with your engine, you get the gas smell.
Bring your car to your Hundai dealership and have them take a look at it for you.

Thanks for the info. I guess I'll be calling my dealer this week.
Strangely enough, the car doesn't seem to be making the smell this week. Could it have just been the result of a bad tank of gas, or maybe something that happened the last time I got the oil changed? Thanks again, Mike Ryan |
