New 3000GT?

So, it seems like all the car companies are coming out with their new version(s) of their old cars. Nissan has the new 350Z. Mazda is supposedly coming out with a new RX-7 if the RX-8 sells well; which, it seems so far, it's selling very well. Toyota is supposedly coming out with a new Supra, some time in the near future, from what I've read. So, what's the standing like with Mitsubishi coming out with a new-age 3000GT VR-4, or similar?

The 350Z puts out, what, close to 290 horsepower with it's 3.5L V6? The new RX-7 is supposed to have a 1.5L NA Rotary putting out close to 300 horsepower, or thereabouts. I have no idea what the new Supra is going to have as far as powerplants go. I think it'd be really awesome if Mitsubishi came out with a new-age 3000GT.

So, what does everyone else think about this?

All I have to say is if they do come out with a new 3000GT it better not look anything like all the crap that is coming out now. Old jap sports cars looked sooooo much better than the new ones. That is if you want to call these new cars sports cars at all. If the 3000GT comes back mitsu better go all out again, and not follow the lead of the other companys with a toned down version of an awsome car that used to be produced.

I'm gonna have to disagree. The new GTO looks really nice (not like the old one, which may be why some of you dislike it, but still nice) and how can you say what's coming out now is crap? Have you seen an RX-8? OMG.......drool. But to comment on what evopanop said, the RX-8s aren't selling well because of the false hp numbers they announced, etc. But oh well.

No I highly doubt there will be a rebirth of the 3S. Mistubishi doesn't need them. They have the Eclipse and Evo selling like crazy (thanks in part to everyone's favorie movie ). Why would they create competition for themselves within their own company? And plus, part of what I like about owning my car is that you don't see too many driving around. If they came on the market again as a fast, sharp looking sports car for reasonable price...they'd end up like Mustangs; everybody and their grandmother would ahev one. I like my meat and my cars rare (kinda......well medium. )

-Jeff

P.S. 3g refers to an Eclipse; 3S refers to Stealths and 3000GTs, but I knew what ya meant. lol, j/ givin ya a hard time man.

Mistu already made the Evo 8...not sure if they will come back with the VR-4 or GTO. IF they do make another VR4 or GTO...wut r the chances it will be Twin-Turbo V6?? i dont see alot of 2000-2004 Import cars in USA TT V6. they should revive the VR4 tho, that would be really cool

I doubt we will ever see the likes of the VR4 again from Mitsubishi. Their bread and butter will not come from high priced sport cars. They'll stick with the lower and mid price market.
