Hey ok right to the chase. I know jack crap bout pontiac fieros, in fact I didnt even know what they were untill yesterday, but I found one down the street for sale...it's an 85 fiero SE its red its beutiful no scratches all stock warehouse kept (he says).... he says he collects cars and that he hasnt driven it more than maybe couple hundered miles....it has 98 k on the odometer..... looks totally fine to my untrained eye and the engine runs perfectly smooth THE ONLY thing really weighing on my mind, is that it hasnt been emission inspected since like 92 i believe.....SOO if its been what like 12 years or so since its last inspection does anyone think it will be a hassle to get it inspected buying new parts I assume I'll have to put money into it to get it inspected......so thats all I know hes asking 2400 for it soo as far as I can see its a good buy but this inspection thing is a big deal cuase I dont want a car i can drive for a year and then its all illegal and stuff I get pulled over enough as it is lol......any help is very much appreciated thanks

Well if the car has sat for a while you can expect quite a lot of money to get it to work right. the seals in the clutch, and brake systems are probably dead. Accutally figure on replacing most if not all the rubber on the car. The emitions in 85 weren't that harsh so if it doesn't pass it will likley be one of the three following: the cat, a senor, or the evap can. The other thing I would do is dump all the gas out and replace the fuel filter.

The instant heat up is a fiero thing, you can get a lower temp thermostat, or a lower temp fan switch. (Being in Texas I'd recommend both.) The yellowish gunk sounds like you have a CV joint boot that is deffective. To check that clean off the axle and look for any holes, or cracks in the black covers at the ends. If you find any replace the axle. The dried oil is probably due to the filler cap. (The rubber gasket dries up.) It could be from a valve cover gasket but you'd probably smell oil. As far as brakes go, 84-87 Fieros are known to have less than good brakes. Look at the carpet by the drivers feet (or better yet pull it back) for any signs of fluid, check the resivoir for low fluid, if you don't find problem there, make another more specific post. Good luck!

Hey blue thanks for the reply I appreiciate it. On the 2 ideas to cool the car better, would I have to be replacing anything else to accomodate them, or can i just toss the parts in.....and on the fan switch, can u give me a rouph idea on how to put that in. I have the owners manual and stuff but I'm not seeing any helpful info on it thanks.

You don't have to replace anthing else, not even a gasket! I looked through the Chiltons and your right it doesn't say. It's dark right now so this is where it should be. It should be near on the coolant cross over on the intake. I'll look tomarrow if I remember.
Edit: Errr, wait, is your car a 4 or 6? I don't think you can get a sensor for the 4.
