4g cars too old?

I've been tempted to get a CRX for a while now. They're great platforms for a swap, cheap, and fun to drive. I'll need this car for the next few years, however, and my only concern is that they are too old to last much longer. Even if I got the newest possible rex ('91), it'd still be almost 13 years old. Are these concerns valid? How much longer will aftermarket parts be produced for these cars?

its basically all up to you dude, there are parts for it now and they will more than likely be around for quite longer so dont let that be a deciding factor.

Well if you plan on doing a swap, then you dont have to worry about the motor and drivetrain dying of old age. So bascially just check out the frame of the car for rust and whatnot. Im sure you can find a good list of things to look for to go bad in a rex or hatch. I still see plenty of muscle cars on the road and they are pushing 30+ years now. Its all a matter of how the car was cared for by the previous owner(s).

dude i nearly reached through my modem and slapped you for calling my car too old, all i have to say is there are many cars that make their way into classic car domains and i firmly believe that the 1g and 2g crx are destined for greatness as cult classic cars.

hey my half brother still has his sport compact car that he tuned himself through highschool and college. and that was 12 years ago he rebuilt it.

in my openion how long your car lasts all depends on the time and effort you take into restoring/ tuning them for example my half brother completely remobed all body panels and repainted them.

I see what you're saying, but I don't want to have to restore the body. I want to do a swap, bolt-on's, maybe rims. If I can find one that's in good condition, I think it'd be worth a shot. My other option would be a 5th gen hatch, but it's like you said: a CRX is a classic.

well me owning two fourth gens i do think they are pushing their age, but that could be good or bad, i really think the crx is a classic more so then the sedan or hatch by far the crx rocks the fucking house and i dont even have one! hopefully they are still respected in 5yrs when they are like 18+yrs old!!!!

Re: 4g cars too old?

I'll be driving my 91 until I can't anymore due to rust.. I'll be rocking it when its 20 years old for sure. My body is still in really good shape, no rust at all on the car now, and the engine... Well, it probably won't remain the same for much longer anyway, its just a temporary speed fix for now.

I fuckin' love my fourth gen more than pretty much any other car on the road thats afforable (other than a Mini), so I'll probably keep it for a long ass time. Even when I do get another car I'll be keeping my current one as a cruiser that I just drive sometimes.

well the crx is being re released in i believe 2004 i'm not 100% sure but they are releasing a gas electric hybrid model and a vtec model... i think the value of the old skool ones will come back at that time. but i just like that they are bringing back the 2 seater hatch i love that idea.
