Anyone seen a Toyota Celica WRC?

I'm wondering what to do after I've finished my Focus WRC and am toying with the idea of my first kit bash. The plan is to turn a Toyota New Celica (Tamiya 24215) into a rally car.

Tha ideas revolving around my head currently include :

1. Maybe use the SAS bodykit I bought recently (not sure if this might be considered a waste of a good body kit, but I thought it might make it look that bit more 'racy' than the standard bodyshell)
2. Beefed up suspension (hopefully gravel setup with tyres to match)
3. Full rollcage
4. Remove the sunroof and add air-vent
5. Exhaust conversion
6. Decals from a suitable donor kit, undecided at the moment

Tha main reason I mention this now is that I'm looking for some reference pics. Has anyone ever heard, or even better have photos, of a rally-spec Celica? I can't find anything on the internet, so unless I'm lucky I'll have to resort to my imagination

Any other suggestions are also welcome.

edit : sorry for the misleading thread title, I meant CELICA!!!

That's weird, I just deleted all the reference photos I had of the Celica rally car for the same conversion you're wanting to do, and when I say just, I mean minutes ago, literally.
Esso-Ultron run a Celica in Asian rallies as a front wheel drive car, you should be able to find some photos of that online.

I won't be doing the conversion anymore due to another member here I won't mention, I will see if I can at least find something for you.

EDIT: Here ya go:

You got my hopes up with your title cause I am working on a Toyota Corolla WRC.
I thought I had seen a celica rally car in kit form. Not sure. I'll do some looking and see if I can find anything out.
Great idea for a build though!

There is a Celica in kit form, but only of the ST185 and prior generations.

See Tamiya's '93 Monte Carlo rally Celica kit for an example.

Sorry bro, I didn't catch the "new" part on your thread. But I posted a couple links that should be cool for reference, especially the last link!
Good Luck!

I vaguely remember this, a difference in opinion over ownership of the original idea if I remember rightly. All I can say is that it's a crying shame you didn't have a go.

You realise the Celica's on rally-model are mostly 1/43 and are diecast?
There isn't a plastic kit of the ST205 rally car (the one famous for getting Toyota suspended from the WRC), if there was, I would have one.
I do have a 1/43 ST205 though, thanks to FOTW

No problem.
FYI, the last photo is a Tamiya kit that was converted to a rally car, it was on Tamiya's website some time back.

Just had a quick look at your links - thanks! There are some good ideas for liveries and wing styles in that lot, now I'm spoilt for choice.

Slightly off topic, but I was only thinking the other day it was a shame that Toyota weren't back in the WRC. Is the suspension still in effect or have they chosen not to return?

Good to see someone else is having a go at this conversion. The whole "original idea" argument a few months back was a farce. I reckon anyone into rally, and modelling rally cars, had the very same idea - I know i did (as well as converting a RAV4, an Echo/Vitz/Yaris and basically any other Toyota into a Castrol sponsored rally car). I really hope you go through with this conversion - and you should to Freakray. Why let some petty squabble spoil your ideas and enjoyment! I for one still plan one of the above conversions, and will gladly post pictures here for all to see.

If this conversion goes well I'm hoping to follow up with a 350Z WRC and maybe a Skyline WRC too. Assuming I don't make a pig's ear out of the Celica!

TTE used an illegal turbo set up on the ST205 which got them a 2 year suspension from WRC competition, in those 2 years they developed the equally quick and able Toyota Corolla WRC which was based on the European version of the Corolla hatch with the round headlights(the AE111).
Toyota returned to WRC competition in 1998 and was equally competitive and even won some events.
Toyota later decided it wanted to enter F1 as a manufacturer team, TTE was disbanded and in 2001 Toyota entered the F1 World Championship.

If I have any of my years mixed up, I am open to correction, I typed this from memory.
