Sr20det Ecu & Wiring Harness

I have a hook up on an engine from Japan for $650can. but the only problem is that it is just the engine no wiring harness to the ecu or the ecu. I do need to get a computer for the turbo and I know I can't use my stock G ecu(hehehehe). Will this bolt right in? All I know is that I'm going to need a custom downpipe(or so I was told)?Any help or advice?:sun:

that is a damn good price for that engine, make sure the turbo is in good shape. you DONT need a new ecu for the DET, just get it reprogrammed by JWT, not sure if they do for different countries though. if not, then you can get it dynotuned. ya you will need a custom downpipe cause there are no IC piping kits for the G yet.

So the ecu ....

isnt necessary?
I thought that it was!
I was actually looking for a way to get a "det" ecu since I just got my car back after getting my 5th gear bull$hit sorted out! It was gone for 3 weeks and I know for sure that If I send my ECU to Cali. It aint coming home for a damn long @$$ time!
Do I not need a new wiring harness or does everything plug in?

You are best off getting your ECU reprogrammed by JWT. If you don't want to send yours in, you can get one by exchange. Just order an ECU that is already programmed with what you need and you get one while yours is still in the car. You pay for the ECU and a core charge (about $500 US) which you get back when you send in your ECU.

Wiring harness is fine. Downpipe is for the exhaust. Intercooler and piping is up to you. Pick up the December issue of Sport Compact Car if you want all the details.

Also make damn sure you see the motor before you put any money on it. $650cdn sounds a little fishy. It could be a regular DE for that price. Or they might try and sell you RWD DET. Anyway buyer beware.

Custom IC piping u mean

If you want a downpipe, why not just buy hotshot headers?

I'm not a rocket scientist but........

to my understanding It isn't possible for you to add header's and a turbo since there is only enough room for one. Meaning one or the other!
Someone correct me if I'm wrong!

EndlessGs I'll try and get you the number for the but this was a few months ago. He said that he had other sr20 turbos but they were rear wheel drives.(What car would that fit anyways?).I never asked the price for the rear wheel drive!

That would be for the S13 and S14 (240SX in North America).

Forget any ideas of using a RWD engine in a P10 or P11.

Geo, ... enlighten me

How does a DET spill exhaust into the cat conv?
I always thought with a turbo, you still have headers? Or... err.. whats the diff between downpipe and headers then And how does a DET spill exhaust!

Canadian G are you still working on this? I know a couple other people in T.O. here that are interested in the same thing.

You can't get a header for a turbo car, you can get a high flow exhaust manifold. The exhaust flow in a DET is to the exhaust manifold which the turbo is mounted on, and the manifold then dumps the exhaust into the down pipe which connects to the cat. Hope this clears it up. And to my understanding the wiring harness in a p10 should plug right up to a DET. But you will still need an ECU from a sr20det. Good luck with your hunt, right now I am in the process of swapping a DET into my 89' 240sx and unlike you guys I have to change out the entire wiring harness as well as everything else. This has definitely made the swap time consuming. Should be done by Christmas time.

Sorry Jason

and others he sold my engine and only has the DET for the rear wheel drive. I dont know what the difference would be since its still an SR20det but he told me it wouldn't work.

You do not need a ECU from a DET. In fact, most people who have tried one have had problems with it. What you want to do is to get your ECU reprogrammed by JWT.
