Yes, it will make the top end slightly faster and the motor wil run slightly cooler.
But there is also a chance that the belt could wear out or stretch sooner.
did I just rhime?!?!?

plus the car will not turn as well and you will fish tail all the time. Reason there is just way too much wheel spin on the back. Reason why you see all road car 4 wd drive especially the 1/8 class.

I took the driveshaft out of my TL-01 just to see what would happen, because the driveshaft divides the power by 4 wheels, taking it out makes the same amount of power, but it is used by 2 wheels (and gear boxes) thus, going faster. Like people have said though, it is harder to steer because applying too much throttle will make the back spin out (not like drift, although it did drift a few times ). Also when it was raining and I was driving the car on the undercover porch (very flat concrete + A few layers of paint = a very slippery surface) it would just spin the wheels while moving at about 1 or 2 kph. Did some pretty cool doughnuts though

It was good fun to drive my car as RWD for a while but I do prefer driving fast and being able to control it to driving faster, and spinning out all the time.

im quite proud of my little car now haha i just got me a pulse r reedy motor only 12 turn double but its pretty nifty i have to say!! and i also went and bought me and msonik3 8 turn capable esc which is cool the guy at the hobby shop advised me if i was just gonna run my car everyday for fun just get a 12 turn motor because it is more reliable than a 8 turn but eventually i will buy an 8 turn to race my mates hehe
i will add the 4 wheel drive when i race my mates and have just rear wheel for the 12 turn i mite even get a 10 turn just for fun i am starting to like this hobby more and more maybe later i will get heaps off real good shit haha but for now, novice = less expensive parts

that's good, I'm glad you're having fun that's what its all about. But if you're going with a 12 turn make sure you got the car geared correctly, otherwise you could fry the motor.
