1994 Cadillac engine coolant hot problem

I have a problem with my 1994 Cadillac Seville. Recently the message came on "Engine coolant hot". I stopped and the radiator overflow was full of anti-freeze, but the radiator was not hot to the touch and I could take the cap right off. Took it to mechanic who said that the heads were warped. Took it to another mechanic for second opinion. He said he didn't know what was wrong but didn't appear that the heads were warped. So took it to the local cadillac dealer where it has been for 3 weeks. They replaced the instrument clusters thinking it was a error message (there were several other error messages coming up). Drove it home, no problem. The next day the message "Engine coolant hot" came on then the message "Engine hot". I stopped and once again the overflow had anti-freeze going into it, but the radiator was not hot to the touch, no stream, no indication of hot engine. Started it back up and drove on home without incident. The next day drove 150 miles for graduation party. No problem. Went to go home and got 10 miles and message "Engine coolant hot" Shut off car for 10 minutes and drove back 140 miles without incident. Took back to caddy dealership where it has been passed 3 weeks. They did complete compression test and do not believe it is a problem with heads. They have no clue what is wrong with the car and I am going to pick it up. Any clues?? Please help!

Just some friendly info

Hey, my mom's got a 94 Deville (which is pretty much the same as a Seville) with that digital cluster thing like your car has. The message center, at the bottom of the cluster (tach, oil life, systems check, blah blah), usually tells you if something is going wrong (if the service engine soon light doesn't come on). It seemed like her car would show that "Engine Coolant Hot" and "Engine Hot" message when the anti-freeze needed changing, but shouldn't it say "Change Coolant" if that was the problem? I mean, its a Cadillac, go figure. It could just be that your coolant temp/engine temp sensors are bad and making the car act like its really wrong. I would bring that up to Cadillac when you take it back. Let me know how things go. My e-mail is [email protected] if you want to get back with me.

if your still having this problem, a easy thing to do would be to install a coolant temp gauge in the vehicle so you can see if the engine is actually overheating or not
