How big of a wheel can I get?
Hey,
I have 15x7 steel rims on my truck now, and want to go bigger and get alloys. I'm thinking about getting 16" rims and maybe 265/70s. What is the largest I can go without having to put a lift on? What about 31x10.5x16, or either of these size tires on 15" rims? Any suggestions or recommendations are appreciated. John |

Save Money--be Happy!
Keep your wheels but get BFG All Terrains in 31x10.5R15LT. You will love the tires, they look tuff and are much tougher than they look and they wear very well with lots of highway miles. They air down and flex well off road too and the 7in. rim will be well protected also. You cannot go wrong with this combo. I have had 5 Toyota 4x's and have always run this combination although the size has varied. You will also notice no real decrease in mileage or loss of power.

Any of the sizes you mentioned should work just fine. As for tires, I've tried a lot of tires in the last 10 years, including BFG All-terrains/mud terrains/Rugged Trails, Hawgs, Thornbirds, Yokohama Mud Diggers, Super Swampers...etc....
Of these, I like the BFG All-Terrains the best for all around performance. For rock crawling, the Thornbirds worked the best for me, especially aired down. The bias plyed really digs but are unstable at highway speeds. My only concern as always been wet and snow performance and for this reason, I'm about to try some Bridgeston Duelers. Check out the comparison chart (survey charts) at www.tirerack.com F- |

When comparing tires (not on paper, but in person) take a moment to check out the thickness of the sidewall. Those Bridgestone Duelers are paper thin in the side wall, not a tire I would take even 1/2 mile off road. When the BFG's are so affordable, unless you are getting the Bridgestones for free, what gives?
