Show and Tell

A FIVE-YEAR-OLD Territory girl shocked teachers when she showed her class how to make a bong out of a soft drink bottle during a "show and tell" session.

The incident took place at a primary school in Darwin's northern suburbs.

The revelation comes amid mounting concerns over drug use among Territory primary school students.

At least two instances have been reported to the Education Department of children aged between five and 12 being caught with drugs at school.

In one case the drug was amphetamine. Teachers have indicated this may be the tip of the iceberg.

"The little girl showing how to make a bong was the most in-your-face example of drug culture among primary school students I've heard of," one teacher said.

I always hated show and tell, every other kid always had something better than I did. If I were in her class I'd have called her a "P-P head" during snacktime.

Oh yeah, and drugs are bad too (especially for five year olds)

Re: Show and Tell

Maybe this is an explanation for extreme happiness among younger children?

Sounds to me like this story is false...typical made up story...no specifics, on anything. The name of the school, any dates, the city, people's names, all undefined...seems like another urban myth starting up.

And if it IS true...

ok, you got cities...who said what quotes? It's all "one teacher said", "the spokesperson said", this seems like it would be a serious issue if you've got alot of toddlers showing up with narcotics in school...why the hold out on what schools and where? If I was a parent I wouldn't send my kid to a school that has other kids bringing dope in for show and tell...don't mean to be a persistent prick, but it doesn't add up...
Where's the guy who always brings up the "www.snopes.com" links when you need him...

[EDIT] And I left a little remark under my first post stating I wasn't totally disbelieving...

People don't want to be named because they don't want to be associated with it or have their names in the papers. The school doesn't want to be named because it doesn't want people to know that IT is the school with the drug problem. They don't want parents calling them up and telling them they're taking their kids out of school. This is a true article. No cities named? How about Darwin.

I reiterate, they won't say anyone's names because they don't want to be called up and told they are bad parents, that the school is terrible, have kids pulled out etc.

Re: Show and Tell

It is from an extremely reputable source too. It was on the local news here in Sydney (like having a story about an elementary school incident that occured in NYC aired on LA news in the US) so was big enough. Pretty sure it's not fake.
