Question Del Sol owner looking for B16 engine

a few concerns and questions when finding a B16A engine for my '93 Hond Del Sol.

First of all i live in California and i have heard from a source that it's illegal to engine swap your car? is this true?

that is my biggest concern. others are the small concerns like :
"will the engine fit? will it be reliable?" etc just a little jitters before adding something new to my car.

now my questions are:
1) Where would be the best place to go to find an engine?
2) Is the internet reliable when buying an engine?
3) I heard that the B16A engines for the Del Sol have 170 horses instead of the 160 horses. is this true?

please post your thoughts. Thanks

If you would like to tell me not through this post then feel free to IM me at HeyYou372 in AIM.

Please no assholeish messages. Thanks

I found this on the internet:
http://www.ardperformance.com/cgi-bi...l?action=index
but in the description of the B16A motor it doesn't say anything about a Del Sol. Will it still fit my car?
the only thing that does fit my car is the 130 mph engine, which is a boost from my 102mph engine, but i want more power than that. 160 stock sounds pretty good but does it fit?

--Hey,
The internet is kinda sketchy..You can do motor swaps but it IS illegal if the engine you're putting in is OLDER than y our car. It will fit because they have Del Sol's in the states with the stock B16 in them, It's called the SIR. It is reliable as long as you maintain it(obviously). Oh and it's 160HP.

For the final thought, I can hook you up with a motor. All of my motors are JDM.

lyna

Oh yeah, by the way..The only 170HP B16 is the B16A2 (SIR II) . Hope this helps!

No, there is no such thing as a USDM SiR, and I would steer clear of someone selling you a "JDM" motor that said there was. There were DOHC delsols in the states, but it was just called the Del Sol vtec, the sir was in Japan, and the VTi was in Europe, it had 160hp. The 170 hp was reserved for the JDM civic 92-95 SiR/SiRII's and it ran a 10.4:1 compression giveing it a slight bump in hp to 170ps which is roughly 168hp. The B16A can be found in USDM specs at junbkyards in the states, but there weren't a whole lot of them imported, so they are tough to find wrecked. check out www.importautosalvage.com they are a good USDM retailer with decent prices and great service.

Hmm, my stuff is real. Just had to get that shiet straight. Anyway If you like, I can get you all of the prices and information. I can send you pics, and if it helps you to trust me, I'll only take the first half of the payment until you get the motor and okay it..since I have family in all over cali, it can easily be solved. But yah, IM me on my AOL @ sweetbeabi. We'll talk then..

Well hell, there's the proof.

Seriously Heyyou, if you want ot buy a motor on line, stick with a proven dealer, like the one I mentione before, or somewhere like www.hmotorsonline.com, www.jdmshit.com, www.passwordjdm.com, and the list goes on, but don't try out some "dude I can get you motors, IM me for details" Tell him to put up some PROOF here or shut up, too many people have been scammed by losers.

no offense JDMsweetz but a newbie to the site claiming that they sell motors, is prrolly the last guy i would buy from, if you can point us to some of your sales maybe to prove you are reliable then maybe we will consider it.

As for the questions

1. Its only illegal if the motor your swapping is older than your car, or you dont hook up all the nescarry emissions control devices.
2. the 94-97 Del Sols, came with the b16A2, produced about 160hp, you might not even need mounts to put it in your sol.
3. www.hmotorsonline.com is the most reliable place on the net i have come across, myself and many others on here have ordered from steve with no hassles at all.
4. The motor will be reliable as long as you keep it in good running order.

I hope this info helps you man. Good luck.

i know cali has alot of restrictons but im not sure about motors. If you want the B16 swap for it, i would go to www.hmotorsonline.com ive bought several motors from them and they are the most reliable peopel i have EVER dealt with.

It is illegal to swap only if the motor you're putting in is older than the car. I'm not as familiar with where to get an engine though, but as others have said, if you're going to be spending that amount of money I would stick with a well-known and reputable engine seller.

'94 - '95 Del Sol VTEC - B16A3 USDM engine. 160hp 8200rpm redline.
'96 - '97 Del Sol VTEC - B16A2 USDM engine. 160hp 8000rpm redline.

If you get the engine from a junkyard, you'll need more than just the engine itself. While you're at the car, grab things like the motor mounts and axles as well as the ECU. The S and Si models had a D-series motor, so the mounts will need to be changed and you'll need the ECU to handle VTEC and the new motor. You'll need more than that probably, but it's a start. I've not done a motor swap personally, so don't rely solely on what I've told you to get. Otherwise there are places that sell swap kits which should help get you everything you need. The B16A will fit in your car though. So will all the other B-series motors if you wanted to go that route. The B16 is the easiest swap since the car was designed with it, so all you need is a Honda service manual from 1994 which will have your S, Si, and VTEC model info in there and you can see what you need and where everything goes.

And yes, it's reliable as long as you take care of it.

Hey guys, for one, I'm a gurl as you can see on my avatar. I didn't quote the posts but someone had listed passwordjdm.com and jdmshit.com. Well, for one I have a wholesaler's account on passwordjdm.com. I've also done business with jdmshit.com. Anyway, I can prove my stuff is real however you guys want me to. I'm only getting aggravated because it's like i am accused of something I'm not, but I do see your guys point. And what's being a newbie on here have to do with anything? Obviously I don't have too much time to go online before and if I did, what's it mean that I had to be on this site? Anyway, respond.
