316i BMW -need to locate a cam sensor

I wrote to Automotiveforums.com back in December 2003 about my 1998 BMW 316i compact having problems starting when it is warm/hot. A mechanic's computer diagnosis showed that my cam sensor is defective. Yesterday while driving, a light on my dash showed a gear wheel with an exclamation mark in the center of it. The car felt like I was driving on only 2 cylinders instead of 4. The car was very sluggish when I would leave from a stand-still. I was afraid that I was going to get side-swiped when coming out of road junctions because my car was so slow when accelerating. My local dealer here in Bermuda has been unable so far to locate the part that I need. The car only performs like this approximately once in every two weeks. I only drive my car at night and weekends. My car will be three years old this month and it only has approximately 15,000 miles on it. I desperately need to get a new sensor for my car. Any help out there in helping me locate a shop that carries this sensor that I need. I would surely appreciate some contacts. My car is a right hand drive version BMW. Also am I doing damage to my car by contiuing to drive it in this state?
