CRVTEC Motor Swap
What all do i need for a crvtec motor swap. I have a 92 civic hb and am wanting to get a motor swap. I was thinking about just getting the whole b20 motor in at first until i saved up enough money for the vtec head. What are all the things i need from the crv that have to go into my car for the engine to work. Tranny? Ecu? also can i buy a vtec tranny and still have the non vtec head from the b20 on the block so i dont have to end up buying 2 trannys?
The reason i'm asking is I want to get a swap as soon as possible and i don't have alot of money. I just want the engine in my civic out ASAP because its giving me some problems, but i eventually want a crvtec swap. I'm just trying to find the cheapest and quickest way to do this...I don't have to have the whole crvtec swap in right away, just another engine like the b20. Please help...i need info. thanks |

just buy the B20 longblock from www.hmotorsonline.com that way you wont be buying the full swap. Try to find a GSR tranny somewhere and that will bolt up to the B20. If you're wanting to run the car for right now, find a OBD2 LS ECU. That will have to be changed out if you decide to get a B16,B18C1 or B18C5 head tho. Hope all of this helped.

Throwing a B20 in a Civic should be a huge performance improvement over a stock D16 which is what I am guessing you have. If you want to use the B20 as is out of the CRV you will have to at least use a different intake manifold because the one that comes on the B20 is too tall. As I understand pretty much any B series intake will fit on the B20, but there have been huge discussions as to which one would be the best. The GSR tranny would be the right way to go but aren't those somewhat hard to find? Also, if you read up around here you will find that most people seem to think just swapping a vtec head on a B20 block would not be a good idea. You have to be careful valves don't hit pistons, plumb oil lines, etc. I really don't know enough to say anything about ECU issues but there are others around who could answer this...
I would love to slap a B20 in my Civic and just run it non-vtec with a maybe a 50 shot or so. I think it is about time I start saving my money...

the LS intake manifold is the best to use for that motor. Yes, GSR trannies are hard to find. If your going to put a VTEC head on it, get the GSR tranny. If not, just try to find ls tranny.

how much would a gsr tranny, ls intake manifold, and ecu cost, and where could i find them? Also would i need to get new axles and a motor mount? I know i'd have to get a flywheel and clutch because crv's only come automatic. If you know about axles and or motor mount, plz give prices for those as well

i picked my GSR tranny up for $800 with 36K mi on it. You can find LS intake manifolds for anywhere from $25-$100. The ECU is a little more pricey like $150-$250. Yes you will need new axels and you can use any 94+ Integra or 99-00 Civic Si axels. CRV's do come in 5spd's, but its probably rare to find one on hmotorsonline. I got a friend selling a driver side integra mount for $50, so that's what those run. Good luck and if you have more ?'s, just ask.
