Help with prices on '02 X
I'm new on the board and would like some help in buying a new X.
I went and testdrove the new Land Rover Freelander and was fairly impressed. It's not for off roading and is a little underpowered. It's SE version is offered fully loaded at around 30K. So, I fingered I would take a look at an Xterra. I know the '02 has a SC in it so it would take care of my power needs somewhat. Does anyone know what type of pricing I am going to be expecting? What is a good price out the door? |

Go to www.kbb.com for pricing and all the goods on a new X (or any new rig). I have no idea what Nissan is charging for a '02 SC, but KBB will give you an idea of what the dealership paid for it.
The only thing the site doesn't tell you is what kind of kickbacks Nissan is offering dealerships as sales incentives. With the market the way it is, you should be able to get a new Xterra for a great price (i.e. much less than MSRP). However, if you're going to trade in a vehicle, be prepared to get screwed. Dealerships are low-balling trade-ins to make their money. |

Well gas prices aren't as much of an issue now, but be warned that the SC Xterra uses Premium gas.
BTW - welcome to the board.

Not to talk you out of an Xterra, but if you do go the Land Rover route check out a Discovery SD. Not much more than the price you quoted on the Freelander and it will perform better offroad if you decide to get it dirty. It does have less horsepower than an Xterra SC though(188hp in the Disco vs. 210 in the Xterra). I am not sure how they match up on torque though.
Happy hunting!

The supercharged Xterra will meet your power needs. I just got back from driving to Moab from Denver and had no problems with power over the 10,000 ft passes I drove over. It does not sound like you are looking much in how the vehicle handles offroad which this board has a passion for. My best advice is to go test drive the Xterra. The SE SC 5-speed ran me 29k with tax and plates, so it is in your price range, but then so are 2001 Jeep Grand Cheerokee's. On this board we love Xterra's, we bought them for good reasons, but make up your own mind. If you do buy an X let us know so we can all welcome you properly. Happy Hunting

Why yes I did test them out. I luckly did not hit them on Poison Spider Rim, Golden Spike(to just past the launch pad), or Fins and Things but it was very nice to know they were down there. Pics are posted on RMXC's yahoo site, I am summitting one to the out the window section and on XOC in the Picture section by the end of today. Once again thank you for the deal hope you enjoyed the Sunshine.

i got my xe-v6 2002 for under 26k. it has enuf power to get ya in trouble. mileage is about 19 in town, maybe 20. i hear the sc is not as frugal, 16 if your lucky. and just like schlud said, you are supposed to burn ultra premium. are you ready for that?

I got my SC in the DC area for about $28K (add on about 900 for sales tax, tho...) a month ago. Not too bad, I thought. The power is great, and while I've yet to take it off road, I can't wait to do so.
Good luck!
