Left fender hot?

Hey, my friend drove his 95 gt 70 miles the other day (average speed 60mph). When he got out the left fender was so hot that he could barely even touch it (engine temp gauge read aprox. 170 degrees F). It is stock except for a x-pipe. Is anything wrong or does the engine just usually run hot? Thanks!

I don't know too much about the new ones, but it doesn't sound good.
