almost big problem

2002 jetta GLS, girlfriend said car would not let her move the shifter into drive from park after she started car. On the dash, 2 lights were on, the one that tells you to push the break in inorder to shift (ASP), and the EPL.
I started messing with the break light actuator switch on the break leaver....enough messing and twisting it and I "fixed" it. Some how it must have come loose in its "housing". To take it out you have to twist it, and that actually deactivates one of the switches. End culprit was some how it was not fully twisted into the slot, so the switch was not activated to let you shift out of park.
Hope this helps some one down the line!
