Honda Dealership
Im due for an emission test this month. After I got my engine swapped a few months ago, the guy told me to replace the O2 Sensor because the "check engine" light was on. I looked for one online and saw a few in the 100 dollar range. Today I went to the Honda dealership just to find out how much it cost there, and they told me $270. Why is there such a drastic difference? I only have a few days left to do the emission test until they "suspend" my license. What kind of results would I get with a faulty Oxygen sensor? Would replacing my plugs and wires with some NGKs ones and some of that "guaranteed to pass emission test" fluid get me through? 2 Years ago my friend failed his test with an escort and they told him he "HAD TO" take it to a shop and get it fixed there. They charged him 500 bucks and all they did was replace the O2 sensor, plugs and wires (which he replaced right before he went testing)
Also, is there a Special tool to unscrew the freakin sensor from the manifold? I have a 95 DX Coupe, and I've tried everything to get that bij out of there. My sensor is screwed into the header right underneath the engine instead of in the front, where it usually is with stock cars. |

Maybee the Dealership contains a better O2 Sensor.....
(the one online may be of no name brand) BESIDES....Honda always over prices things a bit....mainly because their products will not ruin the warranty of your car. For many people who just bought a new car from the honda dealership....it's their only resort to saving their warranty. |

I've ran into the same problem, when i swapped out my exhaust manifold for the header the check engine light came on, i changed it out with a bosch one from autozone but it didn't do the trick, the shop i go to told me that i needed a factory honda o2 sensor for some odd reason, which was quoted at 250 from the dealership, but isn't it true that the civic has 2 o2 sensors, one infront of the cat, one behind it. i'm thinking that they just tried changing out the wrong one. it causes my car to run rich all the time. way less power

The cheaper o2 sensors are universal ones. The dealer o2 are for individual vehicle and they the proper electrical connections you do not have to splice wires like the universals. On some vehicles the universal ones do not work very well.

so in saying that in some vehicles the universal o2 sensors don't work as well. that could actually be the problem that i'm having with mine. i just didn't want to go out and pay 250 bucks for a factory sensor that i didn't need. am i right in the statment that the civic has 2 o2 sensors. one before the cat one after?

Yeah, I saw somewhere that they have the O2A and O2B sensors, I don't see a second one on mine though. I just saw a new Sensor for 69 bucks and the guy told me it would fit on mine.
Oh yeah, and I heard that once you put the new sensor in, you have to unplug the battery cables for 5 minutes or something, so the computer erases the old one. I'm not exactly sure how it works. So, with the new sensor, am I gonna be able to pass the freakin emission test, even if it says "check engine" I'm pretty sure that's what it is. |
