WTC phone transcripts
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/3188421.stm
This morning on the way into work I was horrified to hear about the above story. I cant believe they are going to release the transcripts of peoples last conversations before the towers collapsed. Surely a phone call to a persons loved ones should be kept private. I understand that some of the transcripts are needed as evidence in some lawsuits being filed but is it really necessary for the public to have access to them. The unfortunate thing that could happen is that certain unscrupulous media people will only look on the most gruesome aspects of the transcripts and reprint them. This really isnt necessary and I believe it is only hurtful to the people who lost their loved ones. And the timing certainly couldnt be worse only a fortnight away from the 2nd anniversary. What do you all think? Ciaran |

I think the timing's a bit bad but I don't really have a problem with them releasing the transcripts...I wonder if they checked with the families of the people involved?
What the fuck are there lawsuits for?

As far as I am aware they never checked with the families. It was the judges decision. I just feel that its extremely insensitive on the families behalf. Ok its easy to say that they dont have to read the transcriptions BUT its going to be very hard to avoid them. The lawsuit was filed by The New York Times, not sure what for though. The judge ordered the New York Port Authorities to release teh transcripts. Ciaran

The NY Times wanted to get them so they sued the Port Authority to make them public. The NY Times has been a shitty paper in the past and as far as I am concerned, they continue to spriral down the shithole.
