Ok I have an 89 crx si with a ZC motor and tranny swap...I got it done at a place called dr. motorworx...It was fine for a while...but now when i floor it, once i get up to about 5 grand the tach needle starts goin up and down from like 2 grand to 7 grand real fast again and again...and the engine kind of chugs and lags only from 5,000 rpms to 7,000...the redline and rev limiter at at 7,200 rpms...sometimes after the car has been running for a bit longer like more than a half hour and has gotten nice and warm...it wont do it, but it still does most of the time...what could possibly be the problem here?

well first i would check you distro (the rotor) then i would check the plugs and if those were OK i would check GROUNDS on the motor more than likely u have a bad rotor since that is a typical problem on honda's is poor rotor design and failure actually u might even have a O2 sensor problem

Also possibly the ignitor...Our vintage Civic's are known for ignitor problems...it is the little black banana shaped thing inside the dizzy.

Figures everyone would say that...I knew i needed new plugs and wires and a new distributor and rotor would be a good idea...they are the old ones...just wanted to see what everyone would say...thanks!
