engine all loud when cold
when its somewhat chilly out the engine is all loud n stuff, but when it warms up its fine. Would this be an air sensor?

I made a post about this. What type of sound exactly do you hear? Is it a duck duck duck from under the engine cover? Cuz I only have that sound when the engine is from a cold start. If this is the sound, the sound is more noticeable in dual cam cars. When I went to a mechanic they said a valve adjustment would make the sound quieter, but wouldn't eliminate it. They think it's the rings around the pistons. That would be typical for a used sports car, since it's probaly been abused.
BTW, what kind of car is this? |

i got the same question...what motor?...um my SOHC NON-VTEC motor does it when its cold.its valve knock .this is because when the engine warms up,the metal expands there for its not knockin as much.have the valves adjusted...but then agian...who says its the valve's?...um yea same question agian what type of sound?

its not a knocking sound, it just sounds like the engine is working harder than it should, if that makes any sense

maybe if you can record the sound of it, convert it to mp3, and upload it to a webpage so we can hear it.
I rarely see v6 have problems with power. You mean that kind of weak sound like when you turn on the A/C? I think having the A/C on takes off like 30 hp. And that much hp loss in 4 cyl engines are so noticeable. v6 not as noticeable. |

by working harder, do you mean it sounds like the RPM's are higher at an idle from a cold start? but they aren't? My buddy's grand am did that, then we ran it into a wall. I guess our way of fixing it wouldn't work out as well for you would it? hehe

no, it's not at idle. Just when I start going.
the other problem I'm currently having is the RPMS are way to high, like 4 grand. what I mean is, when I'm getting up to 60 km/h, its taking up to 4 grand for it to finally catch that gear. and once it gets into that gear, the noise and RPMS drop and everythings fine. |

so you mean it is shifting later than it's supposed to cuz all engines will sound loud in the upper rpms.
