Arrow 305 tips

Alright, so after selling my really beat up 94 9c1, I opted for a really cushy 91 caprice classic, as I do loads of highway, and the power goodies are fun. Anyway, I've done just about everything short of overboaring the engine I can think of, but obviously cant get any power out of stock echaust..... The ticket is that I cant seem to find any way short of fabricating a new transmission brace to run a second pipe off the engine. That doesnt really matter tho, because I cant seem to find any headers that will actually fit a 305 in a '91 caprice body. Anybody else had any similar problems, or any other feasable 305 buildup tips?

-Nick

Hi Nick, and welcome to AF. My 91 started out the same as yours, with a sad (RPO code L03) 305ci motor. The question you have posted is a bit diffucult to answer. Alot of 305 owners have modified there cars and are happy with them. If you want my personal opinion, I dont think the 305 offers enough potential to warrent spending much on mods. I dropped a 350 out of a Caprice wagon into my car and the hp difference in the stock form is not alot, but you can really feel the difference thanks to the huge amount of torque you gain with the 350. Since then, I have done a bit of modding on the car, and am slowly working the car up to my goal of 325 rwhp.

I did the same thing as you. I started looking at mods for my 305, realized the duel exhaust was going to be a pain, and eventually give up on it.

Now I dont know how much power you are looking to get out of your caprice, but if you want huge gains, (im gonna probably get flamed for this) I would suggest dumping the 305 in favour of a larger motor.

Hope this helps.......

Ive had duals ran on my 1991 caprice,he (the muffler guy) just saws alled the "Y" mannifold thing off so he could weld up two seperat pipes and ran the duals down the passanger side of the car,I had turbo mufflers installed and the car sounds MEAN and runs great.I love this thing the way it sounds now, besides I think one could get the cross member off a Impala ss to replace the one from the caprice if you wanted to change them out and have them ran the "right" way.Just my 2 cents.
