Question My timing markings

I've been on se-r.net and read about the markings. The problem is none of them are exactly the same as mine. I have a New Zealand 1997 p11 Primera (NZ new not an import) so it is right that our markings may be different from Americans, but i would think thay they would be the same as the English versions seeing that they were moddled after them. Mine has six markings all evenly spaced from each other. Like this,

Now, given that after 1991 the markings changed to -5, 0, 5, 10, 13-15, 20, BTDC, would that mean that my marking are the same except for the 13-15 marking? Rather that it is just 15 deg without the thick white line as described in se-r.net "about ignition timing". This is what i suspect my markings translate into....

-5 0 5 10 15 20
^
(My original setting which is about 17deg. BTDC)

If this is correct, then my car was already set to 17 deg BTDC, and could be the reason i have had many a trouble with my car while running on our lower octane rated petrol.

Please post your opinions as i've talked to local nissan here and the people i talked to did not even know how to advance the timing!! So how would they know what the markings mean!!!

My '92 Te has the same markings that you seems to have. I've decided that it has to be -5 0 5 10 15 20, based on a similar analysis to yours and by the way the car responds when adjusting it and running different fuels... Hope we can get some clear confirmation here though...

I have pushed the timing all the way to what would be 22-23*BTDC (just after the last marking) and it ran well for about a day. I noticed at this stage that it was, by the seat of my pants dyno, that it was loosing power up high. I retarded it to where 17*BTDC (just after the second to last marking) would be for now and the car is running fine, although it doesent seem to have the same power band. In certain places it doesn't seem to have the power but in others it seems to have more!

I too hope to get some sort of answers, next week i'm going into Nissan in Wellington to see if they can figure out the markings.

Yeah, I am almost positive the last mark is 20 degrees. it should be
-5* up to 20*, in 5 degree increments.
