receiver/cd swapping wiring problem in P/U

I recently bought a used Nissan (non-bose) receiver/cd player to replace the Clarion (non-bose) receiver /cassette player in my '97 hardbody. I used my original harness and the 2 plugs fit perfectly, antenna as well. Mounts fits perfectly also. Problem is that while the receiver and c/d both work in the accessory position, only the receiver will work when the truck is cranked up. The C/D gives me an ERR message. Any guesses??---thanks.

i had a guy come in the shop the other day that was getting a deck in i did it and would not work i took it out and put it on the bench power and the deck was bad would not read any cd's.
