I paint the red and orange from the inside with a couple of coats of Tamiya Enamels then when dry cover the back/inside with Bare Metal Foil or paint over with silver X11 enamel.

yeah thats what i do too. On headlights it looks cool if you paint the back with tamiya x19 smoke then paint them silver, same if u wanna do tuned cars with blacked out/shaded tailights.

I use several brands of fine point permanent type markers (like Sharpie) in red, yellow and orange.
No paint build up and if you make a mistake you can remove the ink with rubbing alcohol. |

I use Tamiya or Gunze clear red on either outside, inside or both sides, depending on how deep the red I want. Also, I apply chrome foil on the back side of the clear part, or on the bracket on the body part, again depending on how I want the result be. Also, I use clear smoke on the outside for tinted look. And I paint the bracket gunmetal instead of silver for a really dark tail light, for example early FD3S.
