Racing Tips

I have a 99 GSR annd I need help on how to become better driver. When I race i let go of the gas, push the clutch in, shift, then press on the gas pedal until it hits 8K RPM and shift again. Is there a Better way of shifting like not letting go of the gas pedal while you shift or Power shifting? Does anybody have any tips on how to shift better ?

well, id just accelerate, when the tach gets right there at the red, shift as fast as you can to the next gear. none of that waiting til the engine gets to 8k, cuz once you let out the clutch it goes back doen to 5 or wherever it goes to, so why not just get it there ASAP and step on it, then you arent wasting time, any time your engine isnt pushing your wheels forward you are losing time.

You have a gsr motor so you should launch. Depending on how well your tires grab you decide what to rev to before launch. On takeoff, pop your clutch and hold the gas pedal in place until tires grab. When tires grab floor it. You don't want to peel out. Your tires should barely skirt. Listen to your motor to decide when to shift. You want to shift when the gear is topping out, not "Redlining." When you shift, don't take your foot off the gass, hit the clutch quick, and slam the gears quick. This is powershifting. If done properly the tranny won't mess up and the car will drive beautifully. You got a gsr so you got potential.

ok, well just read this again cuz it came to the top and sorry i misread it, I read it as you put in clutch, shift into next gear, but dont let out clutch til you rev the engine til 8k and then drop the clutch, then the same for the remaining gears.

and for the powershifting, if you are shifting close to redline, and leave your foot on the floor, you better shift fast cuz its gonna get to fuel cut pretty quick if you disengage the clutch with it floored at around 8k.

in my mind i dont see it being very bad for an engine(hope not, let a kid drive my civic and he hit the fuel cutoff in 2nd and sat there coming in and out of power for a few seconds) and ive been in lots of cars where it happensand nothing wqent wrong, but i have been told that its not good. seems to me like it would just be the same conditions as when running just no fuel in there to ignite.
