trani noises?

I got a 92 S-10 Blazer,4+4,automatic w/overdrive which what i've been told is the 700R4 trani. I've been hearing a wierd noise lately. As it shifts into it's gears only in the beginning of the exceleration will it make a noise like i just put on louder mufflers or something. It's hard to describe the noise. At first i thought it might be the exhaust but it all looks in descent shape. After it reaches higher rpm in the gear, the noise dissappears. If i lightly romp on the peddle why it is making that noise, it goes away. Also, after it warms up real good from driving in town, the sound gets softer and in some cases i can't even hear it throughout the gear shifts. The fluid is good and i have only just over 10,000 miles on the trani filter and fluid change...................however.............i'm almost hitting 200,000 miles on that trani. Tell me what you guys think. I'm thinking of just waiting it out untel somthing shows up.

Re: trani noises?

This is just a thought but have you checked your catalytic converter? Something might be loose and rattling around until it gets warm.

yah...........catalytic converter is'nt even a year old and it's mounts seem secur. The noise when driving it sounds like it is coming right where the trani is mounted. That's why i kinda think it's that. ??????????

Re: trani noises?

don't assume it is not the cat.

Get under you truck and give the cat a whack with the open palm of your hand and listen for a rattle.

Do this when the cat is cold, and then when it is hot.

Mine did the same thing, it was the internal biscuit of the cat was loose. This means you have to change it and if it is loose on your new one, replacement should be free.

Have you had any luck? I have a problem with the exact same symptoms and can't figure it out. My transmission was rebuilt only about 20000kms ago.

found it!

Hey blazerLT............you where right.......the catilitic converter was just loose enough that it was causing a vibration at different rpms. When the converter warmed up, the flexing of the metal through the pipe would cause the noise to go away. installed new mount bracket and bolts.........no more noise........whewwwwwwwwwwwwww!
