Yo all. MY new X. Leather interior and im trying to get dirt exterior but wifee is the biggest obstacle to overcome. I have been weakly offroading and I LOVE this thing. cant wait for these annoying michigan winters. waiting for Manik Grill guard with two PIAA 520 ion crystal fogs. THinking about roof mounted PIAAs, but just thinking.

this thing is fun. Took it in sand, up and down pretty steep inclines in very iffy footing... held up awesome. Never looked forward to winter so much in my life.

anyone know what is the deal with the free running auto locking hubs. What exactly are those and how important is it to do the reverse thing for a couple feet before you use 4h or 4l?

Welcome to the board. I didn't know Manik had modified their bumper for the 2002/3? The truck looks sharp. I tried the 2003 seats a week ago and wish I had a set, or at least a driver's side one for my truck.
However your wife will probably be even more mad at you when you come back with damage like this from having a brush guard on the front. You're better off keeping the stock one as it's cheap to replace and doesn't damage your sheet metal in minor fender benders. |

The auto hubs are a no-brainer, they lock when you put it in 4Hi or 4Lo. When you go back to 2Hi, they stay locked but don't get any power from the engine, they're just extra drag to push around and eat a tiny bit of gas mileage, but it's not a problem for them to stay locked otherwise. To unlock them, you just back up a few feet any time after shifting to 2Hi. However, if you're on a road that frequently changes from bare pavement to mud/snow/ice and back again then you can leave the hubs locked the entire time and just shift the lever as conditions dictate. As long as the hubs stay locked, you don't have to be below 25 MPH to shift to 4Hi, you can do it at any speed, just be DARN sure you haven't backed up since you were last in 4Hi or you'll be in for a racket and possible damage if you shift at 40 or something.
