I have a 95 Jetta GLS and starting in the Fall of 2003 I got in the car to go to work in the middle of a rain storm and I had about 1.5" of water on the passenger side of the car. The next day I had the same amount on the passenger side. It looks like it is coming down behind the dashboard near where the door seams are. I tried opening the hood and looking where the windshield meets that rubber seal and gutter (?) which directs water flow. I found a bunch of leaves and mud cleaned it out as much as possbile and it seemed to work. But it didn't. I now have an inch of ice on the floor of my car, I'm in Pittsburgh. Does anyone have an idea of where the drains are located under the hood. I think they must be clogged up.
Also, I am pretty sure I got a lemon with this car. I bought this car new and have had problems since the day I bought it. I was in the shop almost 30 times in the first 2 years I had it. Now the trunk lock doesn't work, the windows sound like they are grinding when they go up and down, I can't lock my doors in the winter, they freeze up even though I have had them rebuilt twice, I have had starting problems since I bought the car, the tape deck doesn't work and the 3 buttons fell off of it, that's just for starters. On a positive note, the two ights over the odometer and tach, finally came on by themselves back in October. They had been off for almost 8 years. Sorry I had to vent. Re: Rain/Snow Water leaking into cabin and more!
The water drains are pretty easy to see & it sounds like you cleaned them out. Has the windshield been replaced (check the markings on the glass). I've seen a few leak where they're glued in, especially on replacements.

Re: Re: Rain/Snow Water leaking into cabin and more!
thanks for replying.
the windshield is original, but the rubber gasket at base of windshield before the wipers is pretty worn out. below the wipers under the hood is that gutter that goes across the engine bay and I can't get it off. there are small plastic screws that I won't budge and I'm afraid to break them. is there some trick to this. I was just forcing my hand under the gutter to get out the leaves but probably didn't get them all. |

Yeah, my '97 Jetta GLX has a worn rubber gasket at the base of the windshield. I was wondering if there was a way to replace it. -I can't seem to find a replacement gasket..

It's best to let a glass shop replace. As for the screws, if they're the plastic ones that expand the plug type grommet they can be tough. You just have to get them spinning & force them out while you try to pry out the grommet.
