Are Radiatos a "Throw a way item" now?

My 97 has a leak in the radiator. The two radiator shops in my town have both closed down.
I went to a mechanic and he told me radiators are "Throw a way" items now. Do I have to get a new radiator, or are they fixable? Has anyone ever fixed or got theres fixed?

I don't want to spend $200 on a new one that looks as cheap as the one that came on the car. Chris.

Where is it leaking? Some radiator shops can replace the plastic tanks on the ends, however you need to call around to find one willing to do so. The life expectancy of the plastic tanks usually is about 10 years. If it is the core, it is aluminum and basically not repairable. I fixed several plastic tanks over the past few years, including my own, over nine months ago using JB Weld and all of the repairs are still holding. If that is where yours is leaking, post back and I will give you the details on how to do it.

By the way, 200 bucks for a new one is too high. They go for between 135 and 155 bucks in my area.
