To buy a Prelude or not?
Hey guys,
Im a big ol' crx fan but im just not that into re-doing my car anymore cause its kinda a shack of shit so im thinking on getting a prelude. I know a bit about them but I don't know too much. So if you could answer my questions that would be great. What is the best model Prelude? I've seen the sh, s, si, and some others. I thought the Si was the high end performance model but I was told before something else. Is there any common problems I should look for in preludes? And last, would i be better of getting an integra gs-r? Or just plopping the b16 into my crx? Thanks, Brian |

it all depends on your taste. each has advantages over the other in certain aspects, as well as disadvantages. the 4th gen VTEC's will be the quickest prelude, albeit ever so slightly. if you like a good handling car, the 5th gen SH. 4th gens are easier to modify. 5th gens will be more refined and they have more of a solid feel to them. they're pretty heavy though so don't expect them to be fast as hell. whatever you do, don't get a 5th gen automatic model (particularly the 00 and 01 models). go with a 5 speed. the automatics are prone to premature failure.
although honda has extended the warranty for those models. but if you want my opinion, which is biased, get the 5th gen. all things being equal, a prelude will beat a gsr in a race. but on the street, they're pretty even since odds are things aren't always equal on the street. the aftermarket is much greater for the gsr. in the end, it all depends on what you're looking for. |

I've got a 98 base modle lude and I love it to death. IMO, you should stick with 97 and up, but thats because I own one....sorta biased...

all depends on what u want. the prelude has gobs' of torque, the gsr has little. the b16 in ur crx would be nice an quick, but do u really want a junker (since thats wut u said it's turned into). i'd go with either the sh or the gsr, depending on which styling u enjoy more, simply because stock vs stock, they'll be pretty even.

What models of the prelude come with v-tec? Cause my main goal is going fast in a straight line with but also to handle decent on back roads.

Actually, they made vtec's in 92+ and there are 3 dif models from 92-92: S(135hp f22), Si(160hp h23), and the vtec(190hp h22). from 97-01 they all had the 2.2l vtec: 97-98 having a 195hp manual, 190hp auto and 99-01 having a 200hp manual, and a 195hp auto. There also is a JDM Prelude Type S in Japan that has a 2.2l 220hp vtec in it.
