Cupping of Michelin 17" sports tires

I have a 2001 530i with sports package. This includes 17" Michelin tires. After rotating tires every 5,000 miles to date (total of 20,000 miles), the tires are so severly cupped that it sounds like I am riding in a truck. The dealer is not sympathic and referred me to Michelin. They are not responsive either. Has anyone else had this same problem? What solutions, if any, are available? The car is not out of alignment and I have been told that this is an inherent problem with this model and package.
Any advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I am sure I am not the only one with this type of problem.

cupping

I had this problem on my truck and thought it was the front end - turns out it was bad shocks.

Post not partial to any particular brand, BUT...

i had the same problem with my 540 actually.. i was using Michelins (cant remember model?) for about 8 months and they were also rotated regularly.. a friend in the tyre business said it was the 5 series weight.. so i changed to falken, then to yokohama 17" without having the same problems again.. mind you the falkens were 30% cheaper, and i wished i had never got the yokohama's.. if you are going shopping, i currently have the Potenza 3rd gen 17's on, and they are amazing!!

question; i didnt buy mine new, but dont BMW ship the 5 & 7 series with German industrial grade Continental tyres that are designed for the weight? and on the same subject of weight, which car did Michelin originally design their 17" tyres for -- Citreon, Pugeout or Renault?

tires

I also have 730 (17') Potenza's (generation II) on my 95 525 i and they are spectaucar except a bit noisy - will soon upgrade to 750's - I have had no cupping on the current Potenza's are near the end of their life.

Michelin tires

Great information regarding the Potenza's. I will check them out. The BMW stated that cupping is a problem with the sports suspension models. I have also discovered other 530i/540 owners who are experiencing the same thing.
Additional insights regarding this issue will be helpful. You would think BMW would provide prospective owners with some sort of warning regading the sports suspension and impact on tires.
But, that may be too much to ask!
