Eclipse VS WRX

Hello , I was wondering what are the 0-60 and 1/4 mile of the 2002 WRX , a kid offered to race me and im really thinking hes got the upper hand. I own a 98 GSX , auto, Catback exaust, Air filter for turbo intake, Ram air system. He has a catback exaust , Manual tranny.

Do i have a chance?

powerwise its pretty even
this race is all about the launch which i think he has the advantage since you are auto
but just race him and come back and give us the results

02 WRX - 1/4 - 14.4 @94.5
0-60 - 5.7
2G Eclipse - 1/4 - low 15s
0-60 - ?

Plus with you being an auto, he'll hand it to you. But giver a go and see what happens

You mention your intake/exhaust setup. What products?

Also, I assume you've done the "free" mods for your car?

Honestly, who makes your BOV. "Made by who knows" doesn't help. If it's not a decent BOV, bumping your boost is going to do nothing.

And, once again, what intake/exhaust setup do you have?

In the mean time, you have cut your BOV return tube and removed the BCS restrictor, right?

A BOV will make no difference on HP unless it is leaking, so brand name or not if it works, it works. The more important thing is why are you venting? Thats the question

Make sure you get your boost guage before you up the boost.

Doesnt a BOV usually control what hp you have an manage it better by letting the turbo off at certain times ? im new to this stuff.

I'll put it like this. I used to street race a lot a couple years ago. I had a 92 Eclipse GSX , 5spd , catback , and a boost controller. I used to race a madly modded auto GST pretty regularly , and always handed his ass to him. In contrast , another guy I used to race had a 2001 WRX sedan , 5spd , unichip , otherwise stock. He would regularly hand me MY ass. We were actually pretty even in abilities , but the WRX was a touch lighter , which translated into him winning about 60% of our races. And I had lots more mods than him. If this guy you wanna race has even a mildly modded WRX , I have no doubt you will lose. He'll prolly blow your doors off on the launch , and that will be the end of that. Thats just my belief.

Nope. The BOV is totally controlled by intake manifold vaccum. It only goes in to recirculate mod if you let off the gas during a gear change. Thats all its needed for , is basically to prevent pressurized air from backing up into the turbo when the throttle is let closed during a shift. Boost control is handled by other things.

i dunno who would win. I'd go for the Eclipse. how many psi u runnin? u could prolly put the psi up to 15-17....risky, but if u really wanna win. That WRX, is it an RS or the STi? If its the STi (not the 300 hp STi), then i dunno. im still goin for the DSM tho.

If it were a stick , I would agree. But the auto DSM"s are mega slow. I'll take bets on the WRX , and I'm a big fan of both cars. I just know how slow the auto tranny cars are.

The dsm auto trannys are slow? Have you been in my car? Obviously they are not as fast as the Manual tranny , yet the autotranny only gets beat by the manual tranny by a half a car at most.

Most of the people that buy AWD cars have no idea how to launch. If they havent been to a track they often think they perfected thier technique. And with no 60' times to go by they'll never improve. With an auto you can foot brake to build boost on the line, and actually launch quite well. But the DSM autos suck up a lot of torque, so he may come back for you even if you win the launch. But like everyone else said just go do it. Safely of course. I'm curious to hear what will happen. And dont pull the usual boneheaded move of cranking the boost up when you lose or think you might lose. Its the most common way to ruin a good dsm. Keep it safe, for you and the car, and tell us what happens
