engine question

i was wondering what the difference was between the sr20det and the sr22det. what are the hp and torque on both of them. i also heard that when you do a rb25det full swap on a 240 that you have to change out the rear end, because the stock rear end will not hold up. is this true. also how much hp and torque does the rb25det have.

thanks for the help.

There is no Sr22det... but there is an Sr20det with a 2.2 liter stroker kit... making it an Sr22det. Unless a shop or company is selling an Sr20det stroked already there is no such thing as an Sr22det... Sr20det comes with different power ratings... for different year Silvias. Also I remember reading... that someone said there are not Sr20dett... however true, but there is a Japanese based company who Strokes and TwinTurbos the Sr20det for a reasonable price. I forget the name... I read it in SuperStreet or SportCompact or Turbo... one of those magazines.

S13 sr20det = 205hp not sure about torque
S14 sr20det = 220hp not sure about torque
S15 sr20det = 250hp 247trq
Also they come in "Red top", "Black top"

the S13 and S14 SR20DET have the SAME hp and torque, sto saying the S14 has 15 more, where do you get this idea from?

The S13, S14, and S15 SR's all had 203 lb/ft of torque.

And the S15 SR20 has 247 hp. The 250 is how much PS it has. PS is Metric Horsepower. To get from Metric Horsepower to Standard Horsepower, multiply the PS by .98632.

They have the same torque, but not the same power. The S14 SR had 220hp. You may be getting the S13 blacktop SR and the S14 SR because the S13 blacktop still had 205hp like the redtop.

Jun is the most famous of the SR tuners because they have a stroker kit that brings the SR displacement to 2.2 liters with a custom forged crank and had a Silvia run in the 8's in the 1/4 mile. Good luck affording it though. I also believe Toda or Tomei may have a kit as well.

The rear end on a 240 is damn near indestructible as far as I know. Never heard of anyone blowing it.

I believe the RB25 puts out somewhere around 250 hp on stock boost.

The S14 SR did make more hp....220...due to it having Variable Valve Timing. The red and black top S13 motors are no different in their power outputs....that is what you are thinking of.

All of these questions have been asked and answered a thousand times on FA and NICO. You guys would be wise to check those out if you want some good info.

www.srswap.com is an excellent source for beginners. they are really reputable. and soyo, the s13, s14, and s15 all had different HP ratings. they all had different turbos too....among other minor differences (variable valve timing, low port vs. high port, injectors etc.)

don't listen to. you can't guess what a stroker kit will do to a car. no one can. and i doubt you have any experiance with a 5000 kit like that.
