driver profile RSX Type-S

Hi guys. Looking to buy an S this week but want to make sure I'm not out of my league here. I'm 22, but you won't see me in a Fast and Furious movie. I might be more of a classy muslce car kinda guy or even a BMW guy if it weren't for the cost and the fact that it's not 1969. I love the car because you can't get a better name/quality/performance/reliability/technology for the price - not even close. But I'm not the type to head out and buy an aftermarket body kit - nor do I want other people to think that I want my car to be in Fast and Furious. The reason I'm even considering it is because it IS an Acura - not a Honda. I don't want to see some dopey 17 year-old with a crappy homemade spoiler riveted to the back of the same car I'm driving.

That's it, it's kinda hard to explain my dilemma in words - lemme know what you think, even if I'm being a prick.

Thanks

PS I DO HAPPEN TO THE DEALER-INSTALLED SPOILER/SPORT PACKAGE - IT'S NOT OVERDONE AND PRETTY SUBTLE - IF ANYONE CAN RECOMMEND AN AFTERMARKET "SUBTLE" SPORT PACKAGE/SPOILER/KIT/ETC PLEASE LEMME KNOW

I hope that was not a joke...Especially those links - I want some thing classy looking, understated - an unnecessary spoiler that lifts a foot in the air is not understated.

I realize there are aftermarket kits - but there are kits for BMWs and Mercedes too. My question is whether the RSX is on the same level as a Civic, WRX, etc. in terms of "tacky" upgrades.

Yes I realize an Acura has Honda parts, of course. But like I said, I don't want to see some dopey 17 year-old with a crappy homemade spoiler riveted to the back of the same car I'm driving. How often is this going to happen. You know what I mean - read over my 1st post to get a sense if this is my type of car.

Its only tacky if you make it that way. I have seen really nice RSX's that look really professional. I am in the same boat as you.... 20 year old that doesnt want to look like my mommy bought me a nice new car. Get over it, if you like the car then who cares what others think?

I am buying the type-s soon and the only body work i am going to do is tint, springs, factory wing and fog lights. the rest of my money is going to go into the engine.

I hear ya. I think I'm going to buy mine stock - although I do like the look of the FACTORY spoiler, not that HUGE wing and the practicality of fog lights. I'm very new - and I think you and I are on the same page, you mind letting me know what you're planning to do, in terms of upgrades?

Like what do you mean by springs? - and what work on the engine? - as I said, I'm VERY new and don't know the terminology.

Doesn't the S come stock with underbody spoilers?
And if I don't get the fog lights/OEM spoiler, can I buy them and install myself for cheaper - that look EXACTLY the same.
I only ask cause I don't know if I want to spend the $$$ now.

The best way to learn about all this stuff is to find a shop in your area that has people working there that are nice... I live in so-cal and there is a shop here call SSP and the people there are always really nice and willing to answer all my questions... with that said the next best thing is the forums, alot of people her are willing to help you out.

The first thing I am going to do is get a set of springs which will lower the car. I dont like the gap between the wheel and the wheel well. I havn't figured out how much to lower it yet but here is a website you can check out. http://www.modacar.com/products/Acura/RSX/MODASPR/ ... When you lower your car you will have a rougher ride but I dont mind that. Now if your willing to spend the money on engine upgrades there is a whole slew of stuff you can do, one of the first things I am going to do is either get a Super Charger or Turbo Charger. Check out these two links for more information http://www.cybernationmotorsports.com (Turbo) or http://www.jacksonracing.com (Super Charger)
If you dont want to spend that much money or dont want to run a forced induction motor you can check out
http://www.todaracing.com/products/h...ngine_kit.html ...

Most people will only Get a Cold Air Intake (CAI) and an exhaust. This will give you noticibly more HP.

Yes, you can always buy the wing from Acura later and install it yourself if you wish. You have to remember that if you buy an aftermarket body kit it will come unpainted. (except what you buy from Acura) Hope this helps, if you need any more info on what I discussed just ask... I can point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the info...I'm pretty good with cars/following directions - I've done some mech work and changed a convert. top on a Z3 before - I know it's not dealing with the engine, but I can take things apart and put them back together. With that, I can do all these things myself?

Also, does the Engine kit come with the CAI/exhaust? What does the engine kit do and what does the CAI/exhaust do, technically? I realize the turbocharger would kick ass, but ummm, I dont think so...not right now. If the CAI/engine kit/springs are easier to put in and cost less - but provide a significant amount of performane increase/cool racing look Ill do it. Lemme know.

Also, what about headers...are the stock ones any good? If Im no mistaken, there only 1 exhaust on the rsx? Would there be a need for 2 if the header was replaced?
