Rallycross MG Metro 6R4 bi-turbo Will Gollop

Five years ago, I began an ambitious project that today can, without exaggeration, be called a masterpiece in scale modeling: the creation of the legendary MG Metro 6R4 bi-turbo of rallycross legend Will Gollop from 1992.
What started as a standard 1/24 scale kit from Belkits quickly evolved into a complete technical project in which almost nothing remained original. The foundation was there, but to accurately represent Gollop’s brutal rallycross specification of the 6R4, nearly everything had to be rebuilt.
At the rear sits the impressive 2.3-liter V6, configured for rallycross with a twin-turbo setup. The engine was entirely redesigned and rebuilt, with meticulous attention to detail. The intake and exhaust systems were modified to correctly integrate the twin-turbo configuration—a remarkable achievement at this scale. Every component reflects mechanical precision.
But the modifications did not stop at the engine. The entire chassis was rebuilt to ensure the correct geometry and technical layout. The rear hatch was cut open, as were the right-hand door and the front hood, revealing the battery, oil tanks, and additional components beneath—just like in the uncompromising rallycross version.
Nothing was left to chance in the realization of this project. Every individual component—from tires and rims to the exhaust and dashboard—was first carefully designed in 3D using SolidWorks. Technical elements such as oil tanks, battery, and radiator were also digitally developed down to the smallest detail.
Following the design phase came the production process, in which all parts were brought to life using 3D printing technology. This approach enabled an exceptionally high level of detail and ensured that the car was not only visually accurate but also technically credible.
The interior also underwent a complete transformation. An entirely new dashboard was constructed, while the cockpit was equipped with wiring, computer boxes, and electronic modules that perfectly capture the functional chaos of a 1990s rallycross machine.
The decals were designed and produced in-house using Adobe Illustrator. With this program, the graphics were digitally created and refined, resulting in a clean and professional finish.
The version I built represents the 1992 rallycross car, executed in the distinctive Valkenswaard specification of that season. It was in that same year that Will claimed the European title with this car.
