P0306 code
2011 Ram 1500 5.7 Hemi- engine runs pretty smooth but I repeatedly get a P0306 code - misfire cylinder #6. I swapped the #6 coil pack with the #2 coil pack and also swapped the spark plugs between #6 and #2 and the misfire remained on cylinder #6. The fuel injector connector was loose and wasn’t locking into place. I replaced the connector and it still throws the code. I think my next step will be to swap the injector to a different cylinder to see if the code follows the injector. If it doesn’t, what is the recommended next step to track down the misfire?

Re: P0306 code
Is there a misfire you can feel? Tried clearing the code now?

Re: P0306 code
Yes, I cleared the code and it returns. Although the engine runs fairly smooth, I can feel the misfire but it is not very pronounced

Re: P0306 code
If the injector swap or replacement does not correct it, a compression test is next.

Re: P0306 code
Thanks for your response. I’m hoping to do the injector swap this evening. If the code follows the injector that would be a relief. If it doesn’t, I was thinking of pulling the valve cover to watch the rocker action to hopefully rule out the dreaded lifter/ cam issue these engines are notorious for. Do you think the compression test would be a better way to rule out the lifter/cam issue?

Re: P0306 code
Is number 6 one of cylinders programmed to drop out? If so pull the valve cover.

Re: P0306 code
Thanks again! #6 is one of the dropouts. Are only the dropout cylinders subject to the Hemi lifter problem?

Re: P0306 code
Not sure, but do a Google search, lotta info about this problem on the net, GM and Chrysler both had issues.
