Running hot with ac on
05 PA non super charged. Been noticing how warm she's running in these hot days with the ac on.
219-223° yesterday on the interstate. Shut ac off and she started cooling down pretty quick. Checked in driveway and both fans kicked on as soon as I turned ac on. No coolant loss, did a pretty thorough flush when I bought the car. It has had the cooler 170 something thermostat in it since I bought it. Just wondering if I should be seeing those temps when it's 95 out, or maybe some things I could check if not. Thanks |

Re: Running hot with ac on
One thing the whole cooler thermostat won't keep it cooler unless you tune the car to have the fans come on sooner. Yes the thermostat opens sooner, but the fans still don't come on until 195 or whatever the set temp is.
That being said even with a flush there is a possibility your rad and/or heater core are gunked up causing flow issues leading to your getting "warm"

Re: Running hot with ac on
Another item to factor is that over 40 MPH indicated speed on the VSS the PCM will shut off the electric fans, relying solely upon ram air for cooling unless the temperature goes over to 230°.
Are all the air deflectors in place and intact? They sometimes get broken by parking too close to curbs or traveling over obstructions.
