Time for a tune-up? Check all your P/S fluid level.

Re: need a little help

Our 97 was quitting (engine would quit) when taking a right turn at low speed (such as after a stop sign). And it would only start after removing the ign. key and counting to 30 before trying to restart it. I replaced the cam position sensor - one of its two 'locking tabs' was broken off, and the connector and its wires looked ratty. I -think- it must have been making a bad connection, but I dont know. It was also oozing oil. I replaced the mating connector as well, since it came with the new cam position sensor. You have to be VERY careful not to let any of the wires from the wiring harness contact the steel tube that runs from the EGR valve forward to the bottom of the throttle valve. That tube gets hot enough to melt the wire insulation. You would only see this if you removed the inlet air tube running from the air cleaner to the throttle body, which you need to do when working on the cam position sensor anyway.
We had the problem of the engine spitting and sputtering - because it was idling too low when warmed up. I replaced the Idle Air Control Valve, and since I got such a nice discount at Carquest on the parts, I also replaced the Throttle Position Sensor. The idle speed was back to normal, and there was no more sputtering or stumbling.
Have you checked the 'codes' from the engine check light?
