Tip from a newbie?

I'm brand spankin' new here, but been building models for a long time. Alot of you guys are way better than me, but hey, that's how it goes. Eventually I'm going to liberate a digital camera frome one of my buddies so I can post some of my work. One day. Just don't do a Civic contest thing until then....

Anyway, I'd like to start off here with a little technique I've discovered. To make realistic looking vinyl upholstry, or interior plastic, or exterior tri, (like the black rub strips or rubber window trim) or any other sort of semi-gloss stuff, don't use semi-gloss paint. I, personally, hate semi-gloss paint because it just doesn't lay down right. It doesn't lay flat like flat paints, nor does it smooth out later like gloss. So what I do is paint, for example, the dashboard flat black, spraying it out of a can. Then I take Future floor wax and brush it over the dashboard, being careful to make an even, smooth coat. When it dries, it looks exactly like the semi-gloss plastic that our interiors are made of, and is really easy. I have a dedicated Future brush, since it's tough as hell to clean the brush. Just don't use it on a light color, since Future tends to yellow slightly with age.

So there, take it or leave it.

Willimo
