Not trying to cut into the other NW meets / etc but I thought I'd present the idea to anyone interested. I was looking at some SCCA sanctioned events since my uncle does (I believe) SOLO II at PIR and I found some stuff on road rallies. Basically it's not really a race, but you're supposed to get from checkpoint to checkpoint at a certain time, and any deviation from that time results in points lost (either getting there late, or getting there early). Everything is on regular public roads and your car can be bone stock. There is usually always a driver and navigator and emphasis is put on accurate calculations rather than who can get there first.
Even if no one is interested in getting involved with the SCCA, perhaps we could set up our own AF road rallies and have people volunteer to do the checkpoints and timing. Also, since the required speed is or below the speed limit, it's all perfectly legal. I think I saw an SCCA one for the Oregon Coast but not 100% sure. Might be an idea, give us some incentive other than just "driving around."

Also, just had an idea, perhaps we could hold rallies which were more of a race style but within the speed limit, and each car has to choose the fastest route to a certain location. The organizer would drive each possible route (assuming there aren't too many) to decide what the times should be for driving the speed limit. Another idea would be to pair people up with complete strangers and require the navigator to report whether the driver drove above the speed limit or not.
I know, driving slow sucks, but we're trying to go for something legal that anyone can participate in.
